The Corner – The Sisters of Prudence

The CornerWisdom so rare, calling aloud from outside. Wisdom so pure, raising her voice in the open squares. Yet fools despise wisdom and instruction. The Corner takes a moment to consider wisdom and understanding. Wisdom is the principal thing. Therefore, get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding.1

The Sisters of Prudence

The wise in heart shall be called prudent.
For they ask, seek, knock and find
Her sisters to fill their heart and mind.

These sisters much sought, these sisters of old,
Have eluded many whose hearts were cold.

So they continue to search and now they seek you!
Their virtues so precious they wish to imbue.

May their call to arms fill you through and through.
For they seek to make ready so let it be you.

And their call resounds …

From Wisdom, the elder:
May I dwell in you both in word and deed
With understanding to go forth to those in need.

From Charity, the carer:
May I fill your heart with gentleness and sharing
With love abounding, complete and enduring.

From Hope, the eternal:
May I guide your feet towards good and not strife
With trust in the way that leads to life.

From Faith, the door:
May I open for you the path of truth and grace
With belief in the light that shines in a dark place.

Thus may your heart be filled all your days
With your sisters to keep you in all your ways.

  1. I like the idea of the gentle voices of four sisters guiding my path. I’m sure I have four others though – the tempter, the seductress, the nag and the hag.
