The Corner – The Finality of Were

The CornerSometimes we say things that hurt others. The tongue is indeed an unruly evil, full of poison. Such a little member of our body that boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! Such is the tongue. There are things we all say that we wish could take back. The Corner reflects on loss and forgiveness.

The Finality of Were

We were close

We were friends
We were companions
We were partners
We were a team
We were a force
We were a pair
We were good together

We were one!

Then we became busy
Then we drifted apart
Then we lost interest
Then we became distant
Then we became indifferent
Then we argued
Then we no longer spoke
Then we went our separate ways

We were no longer close
We were no longer together
We were no longer able to share our lives
We were no longer able to share our family or friends
We were no longer able to recall those moments
We were no longer laughing together or at each other
We were separated by a great divide
We were no longer one

Then you died

And I was lost

Now I feel alone
