Rise Above It!

Neighbours FramedIn this, the first 101 post this week, after a few earlier tasks involving physical tweaking and visiting some other blogs, I am not building on just one of the comments left yesterday, but I am reminded of quite a few bloggers. This is to them all.

A fellow eLFonian shared her inspirational phrase for 2015 upon returning from her well-deserved break. As she entered the office with a noticeable spring in her step and a freshness in her beaming smile that reminded me of a young child in a candy shop, the pressures of last year’s work issues were nowhere in sight as she exclaimed, “rise above it” would be her attitude for the year ahead.

Tanned, yet not burnt, she could not contain her excitement as she recounted with invigorating enthusiasm her wind-down activities during the holidays – the beach, the pina coladas, the quiet reading time. Her zeal was catchy and we all wanted some! The attitude in the office was remarkably changed for the better with this refreshingly, positive outlook.

“Rise above it”, dear reader. What a wonderful phrase to keep in mind as we tread the waters of this life. Rise above it friends as we consider that we all do slip and fall – regularly. Rise above it fellow traveller knowing that we all do let each other down from time to time over a range of issues and that we all let ourselves down, too. Rise above it interested observer as we ponder the impact this phrase can have in our own lives. Don’t let things get you down for if you do, the sinking feeling will linger and overcome you.

How do we rise above it if we are surrounded and overcome by the things of life? There is no easy answer. It will be different for each one of us.

Already in the midst of this blogging experience, I’ve met some virtual acquaintances with a range of life experiences. Some are suffering from various ails while others are helping those worse off. The positive attitudes of such people in defeating the beast within are inspirational. Their approach is worthy of note and an example for our own walk in life. There is a common thread running through these inspirational people. Targets! Set a target and work towards it. If it doesn’t happen right away, try harder. If it still doesn’t happen, don’t give up. If it still doesn’t happen, keep going.

There are some interesting expressions in the IT world. Expressions like GIGO, FIFO and FILO to name just a few. GIGO is an interesting one that stands out – Garbage In, Garbage Out. If we fill our minds with things that bear no fruit, how can we expect to bear fruit? There are many distractions in the world and especially today in this digital age. These distractions can send us off on tangents and even start the spiral downwards.

A great man once said, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. Imagine if we all walked this earth with hearts filled only with goodness! Is it too much to want especially when we see the atrocities of today so vividly portrayed before our very eyes in Social Media?

We will continually fall over, stumbling over various issues and thoughts. The trick is how will we pick ourselves up after such falls? Now is the time to throw out GIGO and to turn a positive thought into a positive action, or PIPO (Positive In, Positive Out – an eLFonian expression). As the ancient Chinese philosopher Laozi said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. Take that first, single step now.

So when you’re having a bad day, pulling your hair out dealing with the children, attending to their needs while they wrench you this way and that, rise above it! Or if you’re dealing with that infuriating customer who just doesn’t seem to be happy with anything you’re doing for them, rise above it! As you’re getting over that broken relationship that has left you torn on the inside, rise above it! As you face the loss of a loved one and feeling alone, rise above it. As you’re putting up with that co-worker who might be driving you crazy with their continual rants, rise above it! If you’re being chided by the boss, rise above it! As you deal with the dark side of man when witnessing the barbaric acts of man’s inhumanity to man, rise above it. As that dark hour that hides the beast within reaches for you, to grab you and to bring you down, rise above it!

Rise above it dear friends. The alternative, to sink into the mire of an endless spiral of helplessness isn’t nice at all. Rise above it!

Thank you Maha. I appreciate your feedback and for liking the post. It’s funny that even something so small can build into something bigger if we only take the time to think about it. Regards, eLFy 🙂
